Notes: The "spying" scandal that has reverberated around the F1 world this week is put to one side for an hour at least as the cars hit the track for qualifying in Hungary. Sebastian Vettel takes to the track again this weekend, as permanent replacement for Scott Speed at Toro Rosso, and at Spyker, Sakon Yamamoto takes over the reins from Markus Winkelhock in Christijan Albers' old seat.

Rain is forecast, but not until after the qualifying session, however the wind is strong and we've seen that cause problems in the past.

FIRST PERIOD: Hamilton throws down a marker by posting the fastest time of the weekend so far and is wheeled back into the garage to await the next period. Another bad weekend in the Honda camp as neither car progress beyond Period 1 - the works team will be embarrassed at Davidson's pace in the Honda powered Super Aguri, over half a second quicker. Yamamoto, slowest by quite a margin, was blocked on a flying lap by Fisichella - the stewards are investigating.

SECOND PERIOD: Massa has a problem - he aborts a lap and then stalls in the pitlane as he tries to exit on his next flyer. He's being wheeled back to the garage for a re-start, but with less than 4 minutes left and currently P14, he'll have only one more chance to go through to the final period in this qualifying session. Massa is struggling on his quick lap - he stays 14th.

THIRD PERIOD: Long hold for Alonso at his pitstop, waiting for optimum track position, then they get a cord from the tyre warmer stuck round the wheel and delay a few seconds more! First to set a competitive time is Trulli, who was third quickest in Period 2. Raikkonen is really shifting however ... and goes fastest on a 1:20.930 carrying race fuel. Heidfeld pips him, then Alonso, but Hamilton is fastest so far in sectors 1 and 2 ... and goes fastest 1:19.781 and he was slightly slower than Alonso in sector 3 so room for further improvement! Alonso on the harder compound on that run, Hamilton on the super-softs.

Alonso was released from his final pitstop with Hamilton queuing behind him but he didn't move for about 5 seconds ... will Hamilton make it round in time to cross the line before the chequered flag and do another flying lap? If not, no doubt words will ensue! Hamilton misses the chequered flag by 4 seconds ... wouldn't like to be Alonso right around now! Can Alonso take the pole, he needs to find 4/10ths ... Ron Dennis is absolutely furious and Alonso is quickest ... he takes pole. I'm speechless!

Just listened to the press conference and Alonso implies the team were holding him, which they clearly weren't! Hamilton, very prefessionally, doesn't say anything but suggests the team is best placed to speak on the matter, although if body language was audible, the air would have been blue!

Post-qualifying:
From Autosport: "The Hungarian Grand Prix stewards are reviewing the incident involving Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton during Saturday's qualifying.

Alonso took a controversial pole position from teammate Hamilton after the rookie was unable to complete his final flying lap due to the Spaniard delaying his exit from the pitlane.

The two-time champion was waved to get going by his mechanics, but he stood still for some 10 seconds while Hamilton waited behind him. The delay meant Hamilton was unable to complete his final run in time.

After qualifying, the FIA decided to investigate the incident, and team boss Ron Dennis was called by the stewards. The stewards also asked to review the radio communications related to that pitstop."

An interesting conundrum for the team ... however annoyed Ron Dennis may be at the antics of his no. 1 driver, he can hardly be thrilled at the prospect of sanction by the stewards which may see Alonso drop down the grid.

STEWARDS' DECISIONS:

Alonso relegated 5 places on the grid for impeding Hamilton's lap.

McLaren stripped of any constructors' championship points they may win in the race for ... I'm not entirely sure what for actually, just for being gits I think!

Fisichella relegated 5 places on the grid for impeding Yamamoto.
